Client Testimonials
The following are some unsolicited comments from our clients.

Hi Greg,

I thought I’d drop a quick note to let you know as the 44 pre-amp continues to burn in the resolution, detail, and especially the dynamic range and clarity just keeps getting better and better. Many thanks for the revamp and for breathing new life into my Quad.

Best regards

Michael (California, USA) upgraded his 405 himself. He wrote: "The amp sounded quite good before the modifications, but it seems
cleaner, clearer, and more detailed now than it was before. And, with all the electrolytics replaced, it should run for years and years. Not bad for $137 on ebay, about $50 worth of parts, and a few hours of
work putting it all together."

Hi Greg,
Apologioes for the delay, I only got the 44 and FM4 connected up yesterday as I've been horrendoulsy busy at work.

So,
44, sounds simply fantastic, sound is a lot fuller, with more control, depth and a significantly more detialed soundstage. Bass is much more defined and seems again to have more depth and richness to it than before, I used to run the 44 with the low end lifted by two steps, so far I'm listenting to it with everything flat.. Trying both my Arcam CD player and my IPoD I can hear major improvemnts from before you worked on it.

Overall it feels like the 44 has much more control over the sound and is both imaging more accuratley as well as being more balanced across the frequency range. I'm looking forward to it settling in and to revisiting a lot of my CD collection, I'll keep you updated as the 44 burns in.

FM4, at present the aerial is no more than a simple T-piece, however I am seeing stronger reception on my favourite stations, as well as an overall quieter soundstage, imaging and response seems to be much improved and overall the sound is wonderfully comfortable with spoken word being almost indistinguishable from real life. I am plannng to upgrade my aerial very soon, so I'll give you part-II when I get it.

Many thanks for the work, we didn't go thropugh E-bay so I can't leave feedback, however feel free to use me as a reference and if any other Quad owners wish to know about the high levels of detail and workmanship you apply to the upgrades please feel free to send them my email address and I will gladly endorse the upgrade, and your work

Many thanks,
JimG

Hi Greg,
I got your email asking for an update on the pre-amp.

I'm constantly hearing new things from my CD collection and the amount
of detail that is appearing in the music is simply amazing.

Over the past two - three weeks as the pre-amp has settled in the
overall tone seems to have gotten even better than it was when it first
returned from you. Imaging is fantastic and the depth of the sound stage
continues to amaze me. I' currently listening to some of my Ray Charles
collection and on several tracks I can literally hear him breathing in
as he's playing.

Orchestral works are simply stunning and again the placement and depth
are wonderful to hear. The bass definition and dynamics range is better
than I've ever heard from my system. It's a pleasure going back through
my CD collection.

Hi Gregg,
The package arrived today.
It's an amazing sounding indeed.
Thank you!

Hello Gregg,
I received the amp yesterday and spent the evening listening to it. I
have only three words to describe the expenience, "OH! MY! GOD!" You've
transformed that amp into a powerhouse. What an amazing sound. I'm blown
away. Thank you
.

Hi Gregg:

I've done a few hours of listening to the upgraded amps. I'm sure I'll have more comments as time passes, but here are my original impressions:

* Midrange and low range - much more impact and definition. A bass drum and string bass sound much more like they do in person. You can hear the buzz and timbre of the bass string, where previously you could hear just the fundamental pitch. The bass drum is not boomy, but it has more immediate impact and you can hear the subtle resonances of the drum head.

* Details - The subtleties of each instrument are much more apparent. You can hear the nuances of the cymbals in Reiner's Nutcracker Suite recording, hearing vividly how the percussionist dampens the cymbal differently each time it's played. Violins sound more full-bodied and rich, more like an actual violin playing in the room.

* Depth of sound field the upgrade gives much more of a 3-D sound image than they did previously. This is especially apparent in chamber music recordings, where there are just a few instruments to focus on and their spatial locations in the studio are well-defined.

* Imaging - it's much easier to aurally locate the particular location of an instrument than before.

* Volume setting - previously, my pre-amp volume control would be set at approx. 8:30 to 9:00. Now the normal listening range is from 11:00 to 12:00

Thanks again for your superb work and dedication.

As I mentioned, please feel free to use me as a reference (preferably by email at ddavewes@aol.com)
